How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. Drop one or more PDFs.
  2. Under Format, click PNG.
  3. Pick the quality: Screen (100 dpi), Good (150 dpi) for small text, or Print (300 dpi).
  4. If you don't need every page, type them in: for example 2-4, 7 or 5- (page 5 to the end).
  5. Click Make images and download the PNGs one by one or as a ZIP.

When PNG beats JPG

JPG compression is lossy: halos and smudges appear around letters and thin lines. On photos you won't notice, but on text, tables and drawings it stands out. PNG stores the image losslessly, so the edges of letters stay clean.

If your pages are mostly photos, PDF to JPG gives much lighter files.

Which resolution to choose

At 150 dpi, a letter-size page comes out around 1275×1650 pixels: plenty for screens and documents. At 300 dpi it's about 2550×3300, for printing and layouts. 100 dpi works for previews and chat apps.

A 300 dpi PNG can be several megabytes per page, so for long documents start with 150.

What it's handy for

  • dropping a document page into a slide deck or a Word file as an image;
  • posting a diagram or instructions on a website;
  • sending a single page of a contract in a chat;
  • turning slides saved as PDF into images.

Pages are rendered fresh

Each page is drawn at the resolution you pick, exactly as a PDF viewer shows it. Text and vector graphics come out sharp at any dpi.

Lots of pages

Free: up to 100 pages at a time. For a long document, pick a page range or work through it in a few passes. All images download as one ZIP, numbered by page, so the order never gets mixed up. Pro Photo: up to 2,000 pages at a time.

On your phone
