Where 50 KB limits show up

50 KB is one of the most common caps on upload forms: exam and job portals, school and university systems, government sites, membership cards and profile pictures in company tools. A phone photo won't fit as is, but a carefully downsized one still looks perfectly fine.

How to compress an image to 50 KB

  1. Drop one or more images: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or BMP.
  2. The 50 KB button is already selected.
  3. Keep JPG if you don't know what the site accepts.
  4. Click Compress and download the result.

Getting the best quality at 50 KB

  • Crop first. The less background, the more of the file goes to your face or document.
  • Start from the original. A photo you got through a chat app has already lost detail. Use the one from your camera roll.
  • Try WebP. It looks sharper at the same size, if the site accepts it.
  • PNG becomes JPG. A photo saved as PNG can't fit in 50 KB as a PNG, so we save it as JPG or WebP.

How it works

We step through JPG quality levels, starting high, until the file drops under 50 KB. If even low quality is too big, we reduce the resolution. The final file is encoded with mozjpeg, which leaves fewer blocks and less blur than a browser's standard encoder at the same size.

We count strictly: 50 KB means no more than 50,000 bytes. If the site counts in units of 1,024, you have extra margin.

Scans and documents

Squeezing a scan of an ID card or certificate into 50 KB can make small text hard to read. Check whether the site takes 100 KB, or upload the document as a PDF with scan to PDF.

On your phone

No app needed. Open this page in your phone's browser, tap Choose photos, pick the image, then Compress. The file lands in your Downloads (or the Files app on iPhone), ready to attach to the form.

File names

Each compressed file gets the size added to its name, like photo-50kb.jpg, so you won't upload the heavy original by mistake. The original on your device isn't changed.

Free

No daily limit, no sign-up and no watermark. Everything runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

How many pixels will a 50 KB photo have?

It depends on the photo. A portrait usually ends up a few hundred pixels on each side; a simple graphic can stay larger.

Why does the site still reject my photo?

Check whether it also requires a specific format or pixel size. We guarantee the file size; JPG is accepted almost everywhere.

Can I compress a PNG to 50 KB?

Yes, it will be saved as JPG or WebP, since a photo can't fit in 50 KB as PNG.

Is it free?

Yes, with no limit and no sign-up.
