How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop up to 50 JPG images, up to 50 MB each.
- Under Convert to, click PNG.
- Optionally scale down on the long side.
- Click Convert and download the files or a ZIP.
Why convert JPG to PNG
- The site or app only accepts PNG. Common with icon uploads, stickers, and print-on-demand for T-shirts and mugs.
- The image will be edited many times. Every JPG save degrades the image a little. PNG saves losslessly no matter how often you edit it.
- You want to add transparency later. Converting doesn't make the background transparent by itself, but once you erase it in an editor, PNG keeps the transparency.
Will the image look better?
No. Converting to PNG doesn't remove the blockiness and blur that are already in a JPG; it just stops new ones from being added. The file also gets bigger, sometimes several times, because PNG stores every pixel exactly.
If you actually want better quality, that's a different job: upscale image uses AI to remove noise and compression artifacts.
Need a transparent background?
To cut out a person or product and get a PNG with transparency, use remove background: the AI separates the subject and gives you a PNG.
For print shops and merch
Print shops and print-on-demand services often ask for PNG. If your logo or artwork is a JPG, convert it here, and if you need a transparent background, remove it first. For logos printed large, vector is better still: image to SVG traces it into a scalable file.
Which format when
| Task | Format |
|---|---|
| photos for websites and social media | JPG or WebP |
| images you will keep editing | PNG |
| logos, icons, diagrams | PNG |
| transparency with a small file size | WebP |
How big will the PNG be?
A phone photo as PNG is usually several times bigger than as JPG. If size matters and you don't need transparency or editing, stick with JPG or pick WebP. If the PNG is for a website where load speed matters, scale it down to 1920 or 1280 pixels first.
