How to convert MP4 to MP3

  1. Drop up to 5 MP4 videos above. MOV, WebM and MKV work too.
  2. MP3 is already selected. Pick a quality: 128, 192 or 320 kbps.
  3. Click Convert to MP3.
  4. Download the files one by one or all at once as a ZIP.

Which MP3 quality to choose

BitrateBest forOne minute of audio
128 kbpsspeech, lectures, podcasts, webinarsabout 1 MB
192 kbpsmusic, the right choice for most peopleabout 1.4 MB
320 kbpsthe highest MP3 qualityabout 2.4 MB

Keep in mind that quality can't get better than the source. If the video was recorded on a phone, 320 kbps just gives you a bigger file. For music videos or recordings made with a good microphone, 192 or 320 is worth it.

Why no upload means faster

Most online converters upload your video to their server first. A 1 GB file on a 20 Mbps connection takes about seven minutes to upload, and then you wait in a queue and download the result. Here the audio is extracted right in your browser on your computer or phone. The video goes nowhere, so the only wait is the processing itself.

What people use it for

  • saving a lecture or webinar to listen to on the go;
  • getting the music from your own clip or a concert video;
  • preparing audio for transcription;
  • sending a recorded conversation without the heavy video.

For lossless audio to edit, go with video to WAV. For iPhones there's M4A, and OGG for voice messages, both in the same tool. More on formats on the extract audio from video page.

How big is an MP3?

An hour at 128 kbps is about 60 MB, at 192 kbps about 85 MB, and at 320 kbps about 145 MB. The same hour of video is dozens of times larger, which is why MP3 is easy to keep on a phone and send in chats.

Audio files work too

Have a WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC? Drop it in the same way and get an MP3.

Long recordings

Files can be up to 2 GB, enough for multi-hour webinar recordings. Processing happens on your device, so a long video takes a little while, but nothing has to be uploaded.
