How did it turn out?
Works foreverA static code keeps the link inside itself and doesn’t depend on us. Dynamic codes don’t get switched off either, even if Pro runs out, and there are no ads before the redirect.
We check that it scansAfter every change we scan the code ourselves and warn you if the colors or logo get in the camera’s way.
Stats for businessDynamic codes show how many times they were scanned, by day, city, device and time. Elsewhere that’s only on expensive plans.

How to make a menu QR code

  1. Put your menu online: on your website, as a PDF in cloud storage, or on any link-in-bio page.
  2. Paste the link into the Link field above.
  3. Add your logo and a caption. The Scan for the menu chip fills it in with one tap.
  4. Match the colors to your brand. We check that the code still scans after every change.
  5. Download PDF or SVG for the print shop, or PNG for an office printer.

Static or dynamic for a menu?

A static QR code is free and works forever, but the link is baked into the pattern. If the menu moves to a new address, every sticker on every table has to be reprinted.

That's why a dynamic QR code is handy for menus: the code on the tables stays the same while you change the link behind it whenever you like, to a summer menu, a brunch menu or today's specials. You also see how often it's scanned by day and hour, which tells you how many guests actually open the menu. Dynamic codes come with Pro Business, from $9.99 a month, up to 100 codes per key.

Printing tips

  • Size. On a table, make the code at least 1.2-1.6 in (3-4 cm) wide: guests scan it sitting down from about 1.5 ft away.
  • Contrast. Dark code on a light background works best. Light codes on dark backgrounds trip up some cameras.
  • Quiet zone. Leave an empty margin around the code, at least four modules wide.
  • Lamination. Go matte: glossy lamination reflects ceiling lights and cameras can't lock on.
  • Caption. A short "Scan for the menu" tells guests right away what the code is for.

Beyond the tables

Put the menu code on your front door and window too, so people walking by can check prices before coming in. Another good spot is the pickup counter where guests wait for takeout. On a window, print it bigger, 4 in (10 cm) or more, so it scans from a few feet away.

PDF menu or web page?

A PDF in cloud storage is the quickest option, but it's less comfortable to read on a phone than a web page. If your menu is a PDF, keep it light so guests aren't waiting: compress PDF. If it's a set of photos, combine them with photos to PDF.

Test before printing

Scan the finished code with two or three different phones, including an older Android, and make sure the menu opens quickly on mobile data.

Free

Static codes are free with no sign-up, watermarks or limits. PNG up to 4000 px, plus SVG and PDF for any print shop.

FAQ

How much does a menu QR code cost?

A static code is free and works forever. A dynamic one, where you can change the link and see stats, is part of Pro Business from $9.99 a month.

How big should the code be on a table?

At least 1.2-1.6 in (3-4 cm) wide, with a blank margin around it.

Can I add my restaurant's logo?

Yes. After you add it, we check that the code still scans.

What if the menu changes?

With a static code, update the menu at the same link. If the link itself changes, you need a new code or a dynamic one.
